Add 24-hour fuel, hot meals, public showers and pet-friendly accommodation and Mundrabilla becomes a particularly convenient place to break the long journey across the Nullarbor.
Mundrabilla Roadhouse is located on the Eyre Highway at Mundrabilla, Western Australia. It sits on the enormous Roe Plains, beneath the Hampton Tablelands, between Eucla to the east and Madura to the west. The location makes it a very useful overnight stop for travellers crossing the Western Australian section of the Nullarbor. Rather than having to leave the highway and travel along remote access tracks, the roadhouse, caravan park, motel and restaurant are conveniently grouped together.
Mundrabilla Roadhouse operates a spacious caravan park immediately beside the roadhouse.
Camping options include:
The drive-through arrangement is particularly convenient for travellers towing larger caravans because it can reduce the amount of manoeuvring required after a long day on the road. Both powered and unpowered campers have access to shared amenities.
Facilities available at or immediately beside the caravan park include:
For a remote Nullarbor stop, having camping, fuel, meals and showers all in one location makes Mundrabilla particularly convenient.
Advance bookings are welcome, but they aren’t normally essential for caravan sites. Mundrabilla Roadhouse advises that caravan park bookings can be made in advance, but there is generally plenty of room for travellers who simply arrive on the day. All sites remain subject to availability, so calling ahead is sensible during particularly busy travel periods. Motel rooms are more likely to fill, and advance bookings are recommended if you want indoor accommodation.
The roadhouse’s official website does not currently publish caravan park tariffs, so it’s best to contact Mundrabilla Roadhouse directly for the latest powered and unpowered site prices. This is preferable to relying on old online prices, some of which are several years out of date. Phone (08) 9039 3465 for current caravan park rates and availability.
Yes – the caravan park is pet friendly. Mundrabilla Roadhouse specifically confirms that pets are welcome in the caravan park. Pets are also welcome in the beer garden provided they are kept on a lead. Pet-friendly motel rooms are available if you would prefer to spend the night indoors. The roadhouse asks visitors to advise staff when booking or checking in if they are travelling with pets.
Yes, toilets and shower facilities are available. Powered and unpowered sites use shared caravan park amenities. Public showers are also available at the roadhouse, making Mundrabilla useful even for travellers who aren’t staying overnight. Free shower facilities are provided for truck drivers using the roadhouse’s truck parking facilities.
One of Mundrabilla’s most useful features is 24-hour fuel availability.
The roadhouse currently sells:
Outside normal opening hours, fuel can be purchased through an automated payment terminal accepting major debit and credit cards. During roadhouse hours, Shell, Fleet and Motorpass fuel cards are also accepted.
Mundrabilla Roadhouse currently opens every day from 6:00am until 9:00pm CSWT.
The kitchen operates from 6:00am until 8:30pm.
One of the major advantages of staying at a roadhouse caravan park is not having to cook dinner after a long day behind the wheel. Mundrabilla has an all-day menu covering breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with daily specials. Takeaway meals are also available. The kitchen offers vegetarian choices and can accommodate vegan preferences, with travellers encouraged to discuss other dietary requirements when ordering. There is also a cabinet of homemade pastries, muffins and other treats for travellers wanting something lighter.
After a long day’s drive across the Nullarbor, Mundrabilla’s licensed bar and beer garden provide somewhere comfortable to unwind. The beer garden includes a lawn area and a fire during colder weather. Dogs are welcome in the beer garden when kept on a lead. It’s also a good place to meet other travellers and swap information about road conditions, fuel stops and places to see farther along the highway.
Don’t feel like camping? Mundrabilla also has motel accommodation.
Room choices include:
All motel rooms have ensuite bathrooms, air-conditioning, a bar fridge and tea and coffee facilities. Motel guests also currently receive complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi. Check-in is from 2:00pm, with check-out before 10:00am.
Mundrabilla Roadhouse currently provides electric vehicle charging during normal roadhouse opening hours. Crossing the Nullarbor in an electric vehicle requires careful planning, so check current charger availability before departure rather than assuming every charging point will be operational. Allow a sensible reserve in your itinerary in case conditions or charger availability change.
If you’re playing the famous Nullarbor Links, Mundrabilla has another reason to stop. The local golf hole is appropriately called The Watering Hole. Players can have their Nullarbor Links scorecard stamped at the roadhouse. Golf clubs are also available for hire if you didn’t bring your own.
Mobile reception should never be taken for granted when crossing the Nullarbor. Download maps and important travel information before setting out and don’t rely exclusively on your phone for emergency communication. Motel rooms at Mundrabilla currently include complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi.
Mundrabilla Roadhouse sits on the enormous Roe Plains, framed by the Hampton Tablelands and the distant coastline. The plains are around 40 km wide in places and extend for approximately 250 km from Eucla toward Twilight Cove near Eyre. They were named after Western Australia’s first Surveyor General, John Septimus Roe. The huge open landscape contributes enormously to the feeling of isolation that makes a Nullarbor crossing such a memorable road trip.
Mundrabilla has a fascinating pastoral history stretching back more than 150 years. Mundrabilla Station was established in 1872 by brothers Thomas and William Kennedy together with William McGill. The group had completed an extraordinary journey of around 1,200 km from Albany with approximately 1,500 sheep. They eventually found suitable grazing country and sufficient water at Mundrabilla, establishing a pastoral operation that survives as a working cattle station. The Mundrabilla Roadhouse was established in 1972 to cater for travellers using the Eyre Highway.
Although Mundrabilla has considerably more facilities than a free roadside camp, you’re still travelling through an extremely remote part of Australia. Carry:
The cooler months are generally the most comfortable time for camping at Mundrabilla and travelling across the Nullarbor. Autumn, winter and spring usually provide more pleasant daytime temperatures. Winter nights can become cold, so bring warm clothing even if the daytime weather is comfortable. Summer can be extremely hot, making adequate water, vehicle maintenance and sensible travel times especially important.
Yes – it’s a very practical overnight stop when crossing the Nullarbor.
The biggest advantage is convenience. You can pull into a drive-through caravan site, plug into power if required, have a hot shower and then walk across to the restaurant rather than cooking dinner yourself. There’s 24-hour fuel for an early departure, a bar and beer garden for relaxing in the evening and plenty of space for larger caravans and motorhomes. Travellers with dogs are also well catered for, with the caravan park, selected motel rooms and beer garden all offering pet-friendly options.
For anyone wanting more facilities than a free roadside camp without losing the atmosphere of a genuine Nullarbor stop, Mundrabilla Roadhouse Caravan Park is well worth considering.
